Trust Digital’s new Mobile Discovery Monitor Brings Security to Mobile / Wireless Devices

Trust Digital’s Industry-First Agent-less Patent Pending Security Technology Detects, Monitors and Controls Unauthorized Access of Mobile Devices

Las Vegas, NV (November 17, 2002)… Trust Digital, the leading provider of PDA device security technology, today announced the launch of Mobile Discovery Monitor™ version 1.0 at the COMDEX Conference and Exposition show in Las Vegas. At the Microsoft Pavilion (Pod # 34), representatives of Trust Digital will be available to discuss Trust Digital’s new Mobile Discovery Monitorä, designed to alert network or security administrators of possible breaches of security via handheld devices with Pocket PC, Palm, Symbian and RIM Operating Systems.

“Enterprises are asking for the capability to find any new mobile device that tries to connect to their networks,” said Douglas Dedo, marketing manager in the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. “Trust Digital’s new PDA Discover product, providing this capability, is a great tool in IT’s systems management arsenal.”

Mobile Discovery Monitor™ improves data security by alerting administrators of un-registered devices attempting to access the network. Although organizations often deploy company-owned devices, employee-owned PDAs regularly find their way to the network and can easily gain access to all corporate. As a result, it is very difficult to truly determine the number of devices that connect to a network, what kind of information has been accessed, and how to reduce the level of vulnerability for potential attacks and compromises. Without Mobile Discovery Monitor™, it would be nearly impossible to recognize that proprietary information has been installed on an unregistered device. With Mobile Discovery Monitor™ installed on a server in a network, an organization’s security or network administrator can be notified of any possible compromises and identifies unwelcome devices. A company will be able to use Mobile Discovery Monitor™ to strengthen its data security on PDAs and mobile devices as synchronized directly to the network through personal computers.

Handheld computers have become strategic assets as organizations have deployed millions of these devices to their mobile workforces. Due to their small size and portability, these devices are prone to loss or theft and the organizations that manage them need to ensure a high level of data security to protect corporate intelligence and data assets, regardless of whether the devices are operating behind a firewall or outside a firewall. The data can be compromised innocently or by a purposeful attack. Reliable security policies are not only needed to detect unauthorized devices that may be introduced to the network by internal staff or outside hackers, but also to control flow of information from servers to mobile devices. Once a secure communication is terminated, data can be easily compromised and fall in the wrong hands.

“Unlike desktop computers and laptops, PDAs can be brought in, synchronized with the network, and pocketed by an employee who can then leave without a trace,” said Kevin Shahbazi, Trust Digital’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Trust Digital’s Mobile Discovery Monitorä is device agnostic and automatically detects any unauthorized handheld devices, takes control of these devices, and enables IT managers to centrally manage their organizations handheld computers by the award winning Trusted Mobility Suite™.”

Trust Digital’s suite of security products has been honored by many prestigious organizations that follow developments in mobile computing and data security, including Best of Comdex, SC Magazine, Handheld Computing Magazine, Pocket PC Magazine, GoldMine and Planet PDA.
