Software Designed to Protect Data and Provide Access Control using Latest Encryption Technology
Fairfax, Virginia, November 1, 2001 – Trust Digital LLC, a subsidiary of Applied Technologies, Inc. announced a new product designed to bring single-key encryption technology to protect data and control the use of handheld devices that use Microsoft’s Windows CE operating system. Such devices include the popular Compaq’s iPAQ Pocket PC - Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
The software, called PDASecure for Windows™, is a variation on the company’s popular PDASecure™ security software that was introduced for Palm OS handheld devices late last year. The version for Windows CE introduces features that provide more control on data by encrypting it using a technology known as “single-key encryption”. This means the information is useless unless it is read on the encrypting device and thus cannot be copied or transferred. It is less complicated than Public Key encryption, which is primarily designed for encrypting messages and other transmissions over networks. The product uses the newly established Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) based on the Rijndael or “Rain Doll” algorithm selected in a competition by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The AES replaces the older DES standard now used by the U.S. Government, the financial services industry and others.
“The number of Windows CE devices has increased so dramatically that we rushed to adapt our PDASecureÔ software to it.” Said Kevin Shahbazi, Assistant VP of Marketing for Trust Digital. “Security has become such a major issue for most organizations that everyone is demanding a state-of-the-art way to secure both the data and the handheld devices now used to access networks.”
The product protects PDA’s against internal fraud and theft, sabotage, malicious hacking and helps an organization against legal exposure to the compromise of customer personal data.
PDASecure for Windows™ is also designed to work with the desktop PC security product ForeverSecureÔ also from Trust Digital to provide a total security solution for an enterprise and the devices connected to it. Specific features and functions can be studied in detail at the Trust Digital web site.
The company has all of its products available through Value Added Resellers, distributors, retailers and government contract holders. During this introductory period, the products can also be directly ordered online from the Trust Digital web site (http://www.TrustDigital.com).
